Vacation packing can be scary. Packing for your vacation is such a drag :you just want to be whisked away direct to your destination: no packing involved! Regretably this is unlikely, read on for my top five vacation packing tips and tricks.

Vacation Packing Tip#1; If you “might” need it don’t take it.
If you are taking something “just in case” or because you “might need it” - leave the item at home. I have travelled for far too many years, and never recal actually using any of those “just in case” packed items.

Vacation Packing Tip#2 Put all your Must Have Items on the Bed
Consider them carefully. Then select the half that is most important to pack :put the rest back in the cupboard: you may have the right amount of stuff. If you are still not convinced pack up all your “must haves” and take them for a good long walk, I think you will agree with me now?

Vacation Packing Tip#3 Don’t take specialist clothing
Don’t take any item of clothing that won’t do duel use. If you need a sleep shirt take something that you can sleep in and either use as a beach cover up or as a silky evening top. I have had tankini’s with tops that doubled as a an evening top (bra included too nice!).

Vacation Packing Tip#4 Don’t take Denim
Denim is never the answer. Its bulky, its hard to clean, it takes forever to dry and it has a certain reputation which will still get you turned away from clubs if you are wearing denim. Leave it at home

Vacation Packing Tip#5 Don’t take the Medicine Cabinet
Take a bare minimum of drugs with you. Almost anything can be bought anywhere these days, don’t take a month’s supply of cold tablets if you are only going away for a week. Pack your prescription medicines, though you may find the generic equivalent for a lot less than at home.

England is a most beautiful and wonderful country in which to spend a little time. There are an awesome selection of tourist attraction|places of interest to visit perfect for all tastes. There is the ancient city of York which is known to have been inhabited since Roman times, Torquay (often called the English Riviera) and Liverpool (European City of Culture 2008). If visiting England you really must make an effort to visit London, the capital city of England

London is an amazing city to visit, possibly just for a weekend or, hopefully for longer. You would be surprised at how many folk living in the United Kingdom of Britain who have not yet visited London, even more surprising when you are mindful of the fact it is most often top of the majority of visitors lists (of places they enjoyed most).

There are a multitude of things to see and do in London that it is not possible to list them all at the same time. Surprisingly one of the newest attractions in London also happens to be one of the most popular - The London Eye. Another popular attraction nearby to the London Eye is Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. However, one place which must not be missed is Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace is England’s most widely known Royal residence, being home to the Queen. The Palace is is placed right at the very heart of London which makes it a natural focus for visitors. The daily pageant of ‘Changing of the Guard’ is highly fascinating to see and amazingly English.

Buckingham Palace was originally called Buckingham House. It was originally a large townhouse, built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. It is actually the town house which forms the main core of the palace as we know it today.

Over the next 75 years Buckingham House was extended with the construction of three wings forming a central courtyard. The primary architects responsible for these additions were John Nash and Edward Blore. John Nash was also responsible for the interior design of the monumental staterooms.

The widely known architect Aston Webb was responsible for the building of the principal facade of Buckingham Palace which he re-designed in 1912. Webb in association with Sir Thomas Brock (the sculptor) were the winners of a competition to design a memorial to Queen Victoria. This memorial is still standing today.

The Queen has a few other royal residences other than Buckingham Palace. Every year the Queen stays, at Sandringham House in Norfolk, during the Christmas period. Sandringham House is actually privately owned by the Queen (classed as a private royal residence.

A further private residence is Balmoral Castle, found in Aberdeenshire in Scotland. Queen Elizabeth was staying in Balmoral Castle when she was told about the sad death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

If you would like to take a vacation in the UK you may be surprised to learn that it is possible to find cheap hotels in London without any great difficulty, on the other hand you may wish to reside in more luxurious accommodation and the small number of boutique hotels in London should more than satisfy.

Peterborough is a historic city which can trace it’s fenland roots back to before the Bronze Age.

Staying in Peterborough is a good way to base an exploration of the city and surrounding area. Originally built in 655 AD, the cathedral has since been rebuilt on various occasions. Parts of the current building can be traced back approximately 900 years. Although the cathedral wasn't chosen as one of the locations for the Harry Potter movies, its gothic architecture would fit well into the scenes in the movie.

If you're young, or young at heart, then you should take an evening or two to visit some of the many music venues that can be found all over Peterborough. Some venues offer the opportunity of an "unplugged" session, so you can enjoy a peaceful time. You should be able to find local bands playing somewhere in the city most every night.

Check the program in Peterborough in case one of the various popular events such as the Campaign for Real Ale's beer festival are taking place. If this is the case, make sure you book your accommodation ahead. The city is also the site for the annual East of England Show. Be sure you book your accommodation ahead if your stay coincides with these events.

There are lots of different places to eat out in Peterborough. You can dine in Chinese, Indian or Italian restaurants. Polish restaurants have also sprung up in and around Peterbough.

Spring and summer in the city feature regattas and the chilly month of February sees a river race on the river Nene.

If you're fit enough, you could even decide to run in the Great Eastern Run. This is a half marathon attended by over 3,000 runners through the streets of the city.

Whatever your reason for staying in Peterborough, you’re bound to find a warm welcome in one of Peterborough’s hotels and guest houses. There is accommodation available to meet with all budgetary requirements, from small family run guest houses through to the larger Peterborough hotels.

The city of Carlisle is the largest of all settlements that you will find in Cumbria, England. The building has many different functions: it houses the administration for both the city of Carlisle and the entire county of Cumbria. It is also the host for the University of Cumria’s main campus. A vacation in Carlise is ideal for anyone who wants to find out more about this ancient city.

Actually getting to Carlisle could not be any easier. The city is well linked with the rest of the country. The M6 motorway provides easy access to the South of England whilst the M74 motorway provides good links with Scotland. However, actually getting around the city itself in a car can prove quite eventful especially when the rush hours are in full flow.

If you do not intend driving to the city then there are regular train services that come directly in to its railway station. Trains not only arrive from London, but also from Newcastle, Leeds and Glasgow. That said, the line from Glasgow actually travels through Dumfries on its journey.

When you actually arrive in the city for your vacation, there is plenty of things for one to do and see whilst staying there. The main attractions of course being its Castle and its Cathedral.

The castle has been situated at the Western end of the city on the Anglo Scottish border for more than 900 years. It has witnessed many conflicts and even been subject to the occasional siege. Today, these are but memories as you tour the dungeons, stairways and chambers. It is in the dungeons you will discover the legendary “Licking Stones” that the thirsty Jacobite prisoners which were being held in them would lick desperately to obtain moisture to help them stay alive.

As for the Cathedral this was founded in 1122 and remains a dominate feature of the city’s skyline when you look from anywhere across the city. Not only is beautifully decorated but a visit down into the crypt and you will find a display which looks at more than a 1,000 years of Christian history relating to the county of Cumbria.

For those looking to liven up their visit to Carlisle, you should time your trip to coincide with one of the regular race meetings. The racecourse is located on the outskirts of the town and is set in beautiful countryside and this is why the course undulates somewhat. Carlisle racecourse is home to top class horseracing. These encompass the National Hunt season (which runs from September through to April) as well as the Flat season (from April until August).

Carlisle vacations are ideal for those who are looking for a quiet romantic time away with their partner. But they are also the place for families who are looking for a little adventure and fun during their Carlisle holiday.

Tips for Italy

• The most popular tourist season is June through September: aim for May or October and you will enjoy smaller crowds and still have good weather.
• Packing light is key to easy trip. One small bag that you can easy carry yourself on and off planes, trains and up and down stairs will give you a lot more freedom. Don’t expect every hotel to have an elevator - they don’t.
• Most long-haul flights arrive in Rome or Milan and these gateways will give you the best selection of discount flights. You may get a better over-all cost looking for a cheap flight into London or Amsterdam and then connecting on to Italy using a local European budget airline such as EasyJet or Ryan Air.
• If you do use a low cost airline check how far out of town the airport they are using is and how much it will cost you to get back into town. Few of the cheaper airports will be as convenient as Rome’s Fumcino airport where you can catch the Leonardo Express train to Rome’s Termini Station for Euro11
• Don’t worry about not speaking Italian - if you speak French or Spanish you won’t have a lot of problem. Even if you don’t patience, acting, sign language and a sense of humor will get you a long way.
• Train Travel. If you are going to use the Eurail pass for discounted train travel within Europe you need to purchase your pass before leaving home. Do you figures carefully though, many of the passes are not good value unless you are traveling from one end of Europe to the other. Also if you are over 26 you will have to travel first class on an Eurail pass while second class is comfortable and available for tickets bought in Italy.
• Italy has a fairly low rate of crime. Be careful of pickpockets in major cities but there is probably less violent crime than in your home town. Be aware of your surroundings in large train stations and popular tourist sites. The Romans never carry a bag slung over a shoulder but hung diagonally across the body - and you should too.
